Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) is an essential vitamin that carries out several important functions.

Not only can vitamin c help to strengthen your immune system and help to keep colds at bay, it can also contribute to sustaining normal energy levels which in turn contributes to keeping your skin clear and your teeth and bones healthy.

Ascorbic acid can contribute to :

Vitamin C Deficiency
Some recommended that as an Adult aged over 19 you need to take around 40mg of  per day. This vitamin can not be produced within your body so it is important that you maintain a healthy diet. If you keep to a healthy balanced diet the chances are you will receive enough ascorbic acid without having to take supplements.
 
In the 1700s, men in the British navy often had the nickname of “Limeys.” The reason being that they were made to drink lime juice on long ocean voyages. “Why?” you ask, well it’s because they were getting a disease called Scurvy, caused by not getting enough vitamin C (or none at all). Scurvy causes bleeding gums, teeth loss, and easy bruising. The navy men started drinking lime juice, which prevented the Scurvy.
